WARTIME ON THE SILVER SCREEN
In Pathé Arnhem and Ede, students are invited to watch a war film with the class during the Airborne Arnhem/Ede month in September 2023. There is a choice of three films. With the help of a preparatory and closing lesson in the classroom, students learn to watch and listen consciously, to reflect and to give meaning to the story. After a unique experience in the cinema, students are given the opportunity to create their own film story. Which film could you make about the Arnhem/Ede region in the Second World War?
The Pathé Arnhem lesson package was developed with thanks to Rozet Arnhem.
Pathé Basic: This package consists of a preparatory lesson at school about expectations, a film visit to Pathé Ede or Arnhem and a closing lesson at school. The closing lesson focuses on creating and the Ede region in the Second World War. In Arnhem, the closing lesson focuses on “Operation Market Garden” and the Arnhem region in the Second World War.
Duration of Pathé Basic lesson: Preparatory lesson 35 min, Visit Pathé (film) 115 min, Final lesson 90 min.
Pathé Plus*: In addition to the components of the basic package, this package offers an extra activity for the students, supervised by Pathé teachers. Following the film visit, the students take a look at the exhibition about Airborne Ede, in the foyer of Pathé. Through an active working method, students discover what it means to make choices during the Second World War. Through a choice test, students are faced with various dilemmas. In addition, students experience through VR glasses what it would have been like if they had chosen to participate in Operation Market Garden and jumped out of the plane above the Ginkelse Heide.
Duration of Pathé Plus lesson: Preparatory lesson 35 min, Visit Pathé 115 min + Debriefing and exhibition choices 30 min, Bonus lesson at school 60 min.

The pupil experiences what people thought and what occupied them during the Second World War; The pupil creates a film story based on historical figures and events from the Ede region during the Second World War; The pupil explores the emotions evoked by the film in conversation with classmates, the different words that go with it and links these words to what he sees and hears.
Core objectives
1. Pupils learn to acquire information from spoken language. They also learn to present that information in a structured manner, orally or in writing.
2. Pupils learn about the important historical figures and events from Dutch history and can connect them to world history as examples.
3. Pupils learn to use images, music, language, play and movement to express feelings and experiences and to communicate with them.
