Amsterdam Spanish Film Festival has the avant-premiere of the new film of Juan Antonio Bayona, the acclaimed and celebrated director of “El Orfanato” and “The Impossible”.
“A Monster Calls”, Bayona’s impressive adaptation of Patrick Ness’ novel, finds a 12-year-old child coping with his mother’s imminent death by envisioning a fantastical creature that guides him through his struggles. It’s a touching story, has incredible performances by Felicity Jones (Rogue One), Sigourney Weaver (Avatar) and Liam Neeson (Taken), and combines this with superb special effects that will leave you speechless.
This movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to amazing reviews and was the best visited movie in Spain in 2016. It is nominated 12 times for the upcoming Goya Awards: Best Film, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actress to name a few. Bayona is currently working on the sequel to the global phenomena “Jurassic World”.
